Photographed a wedding on Saturday! It was super fun! I had a great time and can't wait to shoot another!
February 8, 2016-Night Picture
I made this picture last fall. I was struck by the moon this night, and how it illuminated the trees in my neighborhood. This is Roger's Park in Brighton, MA, near my house. Enjoy.

February 1, 2016-Vanessa Salvucci
Meet Vanessa Salvucci. She's a Bostonian with a killer voice. Last Friday at Johnny D's in Somerville, I had the honor of photographing her along with a few other acts. Vanessa sings The Star Spangled Banner at many major Boston sports events, as well as a catalog of music from the 20th century. Plus, she writes and co-produces original material.
Vanessa graduated from Boston University, and then studied under Mark Goff at the Walt Disney World Resort. Vanessa almost lost her voice to thyroid cancer. She moved back to Boston for treatment and now lends her talents to the American Cancer Society.
Check her out. She's a bad ass.

January 25, 2016-Mass Art Design and Media Center, Charlie Baker, Governor of Massachusetts
Last week, my alma mater Mass Art, opened the new Design and Media Center, a project that's been at least 10 years in the making. The Design and Media Center is the new state of the art entrance to the school and includes an atrium, a lecture hall, multiple project rooms, film and sound studios, class rooms and a wood shop, among other facilities. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker was on hand of the ceremony and he told a funny anecdote about how he loves the industrial design of the modern ketchup bottle and how important Art and Design are for the economy and vibrancy of the Commonwealth.
January 18, 2016-Ruby Rose Fox
If you don't know her already... World, meet Ruby Rose Fox. She is incredible! She has a voice like no one else: deep, soulful, and at times eerie. Her latest video for Dance of Frankenstein, has it's own vibe: a kind of Leonard Cohen meets PJ Harvey meets I don't know what... She opened for Robin Lane and the Chartbusters last Friday night at Johnny D's in Davis Sq., Somerville, MA. An incredible show! Check her out!

January 11, 2016 - The Tank
Welcome to The Tank, a small corner of the universe where a group of like minded individuals listen to, pontificate on, and thrust their opinions of... music.
January 4, 2016 - Bronycon
Bronycon! I tried watching My Little Pony to see what all the fuss was about, and frankly it wasn't my thing. That being said I had an opportunity to go to Bronycon in 2015 and make some cool pictures of people letting their freak flag fly! This is a girl who allowed me to take her picture, and when it was done she said in this tiny cute voice, "I was rising to the sky."

MORE TABBITHA! HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!
December 22, 2015 - Mona Lisa
Dear World, meet Mona... Mona Lisa... the pig.
Mona currently resides in luxurious Palm Beach, Florida and lives with a wonderful family. Tyically, Mona spends her days sleeping, being cute, pining for food, and accepting her celebrity status as the local paparazzi fawn over her and take pictures with their iPhones. Typical sightings of Mona happen around Pizza Al Fresco and Ronato's. Mona is a Royal Dandy, not a Pot Belly pig. Her hair is course and when it stands up like a mohawk, that means she's happy. Last year, she won the Palm Beach Pet Parade.
Mona is sometimes accompanied by two small poodles (not pictured) named Mukti and Gizmo.
More later,

November 30, 2015 - San Francisco
We're doing a "Two For" this week at DWJ Creative. Mainly because we skipped last week due to Thanksgiving traveling AND because I made a lot of pictures that I'm loving from those travels. These are two images I made on a cruise I took with my wife. The images are of the San Francisco Bay at twilight. Enjoy!

November 16, 2015 - Headshots
Meet the economic leaders of tomorrow! These beautiful people are graduating PhD students at Harvard University. I had a great time working with them to create some killer head shots. That being said, NEED A HEAD SHOT? HIRE ME!
See you out there,
Duncan
November 9, 2015 - Howard Jones
In one of the greatest movies of all time, Better Off Dead, Lane Myers (played by John Cusack) and French foreign exchange student Monique (played by Diane Franklin) bring Lane's Camaro back to life. In the background is the song, "I'd Love To Get To Know You Well" by this guy! Howard Jones, the British synth pop musician. I photographed Howard last week at Johnny D's for Cringe Productions. Great night! I made a ton of pictures that night.

November 2, 2015 - Tabitha
World, meet Tabitha. She's my cousin's daughter. I made this picture last summer at a family party. I love how silly she is in this picture.

October 26, 2015 - Marshmallows Galore Children's book video
This week's picture of the week is... A VIDEO! Donna Mae is a children's book author and a friend of the family. She approached me on making a video for her book MARSHMELLOWS GALORE. I liked the idea, especially since I never made a children's video before. So we shot all of her ideas with a ton of kids, did multiple takes of her and her granddaughter reading the book, I wrote and recorded some music for it, and animated parts of the book. BAM! Here it is.

October 19, 2015 - Boston College Events
I've been shooting quite a lot for Boston College lately. For which, I am very thankful. At these BC events, there's all these dance crews who throw down! Last week, I showed one of my pictures of Sexual Chocolate. This week, we have Pasion Latina from Suffolk University, who performed at BC. Unlike the other dance crews who do more of a STOMP! based style, Pasion Latina were more traditional. This being an event to celebrate the closing ceremony of Hispanic Month, Pasion Latina were an excellent choice.
Enjoy!

October 14, 2015 - Boston College Family Day
Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Sexual Chocolate, "Stomp-esc" dance crew from Boston College. I was on assignment last week for BC's Family Day and these guys were performing. Really impressive stuff! Check 'em out if you can!

October 5, 2015 - Mass Art 80's Reunion
This was a fun shoot! I have a soft spot in my heart for Mass Art. I went there as a young guy. Their alumni crew invited me to shoot their 80's reunion the other week. They held it at Boynton Yards in Somerville where they brew Slumbrew beer. Super fun! These are the organizers of the event: Rich L., Max Aznow, Darlene Gillan, and Patrick Luteran.
September 29, 2015 - Retouching
Last week I got a call from fellow photographer Dave Ward. He had a client who needed some special photoshop needs. I met with Dave's client and heard her grand plan. In selling this real estate property, she wanted to give her perspective buyers a remodeling idea. "Open this up. Take this out. Add french doors. So when you walk in to the house, you have a sense of openness and light streaming in," she said. On initial inspection, it sounded like a lot and I wasn't sure I could pull it off. I took a lot of pictures and when I got back to my studio I created an image of a room that wasn't really there. Once I had a room, I made adjustments to the perspective of the walls, floor, and ceiling. Then I needed french doors. Everything I saw on the internet was lo-res and didn't look like what the client wanted. So, I trekked out to Central Mass where my parents live because they had the french doors that I thought would look good. I set up lights and shot another 20 or so images. Then, back at the studio, I plopped the doors in. Looked okay, but not real enough. Adjustment layers in Photoshop, burning, dodging, layering, adding cast light where there was none, and WHA-LA! An open room with french doors and light streaming in, just like she wanted. I emailed her and asked for her thoughts, expecting there to be a lot of revisions. "That's exactly what I was thinking in my head!" she said. THIS NEVER HAPPENS ON THE FIRST TRY, but I did it. What I liked about this job (besides pleasing the client on the first attempt), was that I not only used my photography and photoshop skills, but a lot of this was based in drawing and painting from my Art education. To know where light and shadow fall, one must draw and paint from life quite a lot. So thanks Art school! We saved the day!
Until next time,
Duncan
